Biography
I received my medical degree from the University of Cincinnati Medical School, Cincinnati, Ohio. Subsequently, I completed internship and residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Beth Israel Hospital, Boston Massachusetts and joined the Department of Laboratory Medicine as Associate Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine. During my tenure at BIDMC, I established the hematopoietic stem cell facility that currently supports the institution’s very active hematopoietic stem cell clinical transplant program. In 1996, I was named Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine, a position that I continue to hold. Currently, my research interest focuses on cellular immune therapy. In conjunction with Dr. David Avigan, Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, my laboratory has participated in several clinical trials investigating the safety and efficacy of DC-tumor fusion vaccines in treatment of breast cancer, melanoma, renal cell carcinoma and multiple myeloma. Additionally, I am actively involved with the NHLBI -supported Transfusion Medicine/Hemostasis Network.
